What goes wrong on Trane equipment
Flattened or matted Spine Fin coil
The most common Trane-specific problem we find, and it is nearly always self-inflicted or seasonal: pressure washing, a whipper snipper, or a summer of cottonwood and grass clippings. Symptoms are weak cooling, a condenser running constantly and high head pressure. The motor and its electronics are a matched assembly, so a failed module usually means replacing more than a bearing. ComfortLink II reports a fault that is actually a wiring problem
A communicating system tells you what it thinks is wrong. Corroded conductors at the outdoor disconnect — very common on units within a few hundred metres of the lake — will make a healthy compressor look like a failed one on the thermostat screen. Two-stage gas valve or pressure switch lockout on S9 furnaces

Trane warranty: what to know
- Trane splits coverage in two: a base limited warranty that applies automatically, and a registered limited warranty with longer parts coverage that you only get by registering the equipment within 60 days of installation. The difference between the two is years, not months.
- Register at Trane's warranty registration page with the model and serial number from the outdoor unit's rating plate and the indoor unit's data label. Keep the confirmation — a claim years later goes much faster when you can produce it.
- The registered term stays with the buyer who filed it, at the address where the system was commissioned; base coverage is the fallback when equipment changes hands, and any transfer carries its own conditions. If you are buying a home with recent Trane equipment, ask the seller for the registration confirmation, not just the invoice.
- Heat exchanger coverage runs longer than the parts term on Trane's gas furnaces, and how much longer depends on the model. The certificate in your literature packet is the authority; brochures and dealer websites are not.

Can I pressure wash my Trane condenser?
No. The Spine Fin coil is soft aluminium and a pressure washer will fold the spines flat, which permanently reduces airflow across the coil and drives up your compressor's workload for the rest of its life. Use a garden hose at normal pressure, spray from the inside out with the power off at the disconnect, and let it dry before you restart. If the coil is already matted with cottonwood, call us before you attack it.
Is a Trane really different from an American Standard?
Not in any way that changes how it is repaired. They come off shared platforms under one corporate owner, with different badging, model numbering and trim. Parts frequently interchange, and any technician who works on one is equipped for the other.
