Luxaire Furnace & AC Repair, Installation & Warranty

Luxaire furnace and AC repair follows the York service manual, because Luxaire, York and Coleman are sister brands on one platform: a Luxaire Acclimate LP9C is the same modulating furnace as a York Affinity YP9C. Parts are York parts sold under the Source 1 name. On the control board, 2 or 3 red flashes point to the pressure switch, 4 to an open high limit and 7 to an ignition lockout. Typical Luxaire repairs cost $150–$800, and the $90–$150 diagnostic is credited if you proceed.

Central gas furnace in a basement utility room

Luxaire is one of three residential badges on a single ducted-systems platform. York, Luxaire and Coleman share cabinets, heat exchangers, control boards and model-number roots. Johnson Controls built that platform for years and then sold its residential and light-commercial ducted business to Bosch, in a sale both companies announced as completed in mid-2025. For the owner of a Luxaire furnace, the change of parent alters neither the service procedure nor the part numbers.

The model number on the rating plate shows the kinship. The Acclimate modulating furnace is the LP9C where York's is the YP9C, and the two-stage TM9Y appears under the same number in both brands. Luxaire's website also lists newer Z9 models: the Z9VT two-stage variable-speed furnace, the Z9ET two-stage and the Z9ES single-stage. Our York furnace repair page is the sister reference for all of them.

Two systems cause most Luxaire no-heat calls: the draft and condensate path that the pressure switch monitors, and the airflow that the high-limit switch monitors. The board reports both with red flash counts, so the furnace tells you which side of the problem you are on before a technician arrives. Count the flashes through the sight glass and write the number down. Codes vary by model and board revision, so the label inside the furnace door wins over any general chart.

Airflow faults deserve a note for older houses. A 1950s or 1960s bungalow with one central return grille was ducted for a furnace that moved less air against less resistance. A high-efficiency Luxaire with a dense pleated filter in that duct system can run at the edge of its limit setting all winter. We service Luxaire as an independent contractor, and we measure static pressure before we blame the furnace.

Luxaire lines we install and service

Acclimate Series

Luxaire's premium tier, headed by the LP9C modulating gas furnace rated up to 98% AFUE. It is the York Affinity YP9C under a Luxaire badge, with the same modulating gas valve, variable-speed blower and board. Faults on it are diagnosed with the York procedure and repaired with York parts.

LX Series

The mainstream range, including the TM9Y 96% AFUE two-stage furnace and the TM9V and TM9E models that share their numbers with York. This is the tier with the widest parts availability, because the same furnace was sold under three badges.

Z9 furnaces

The newer model family on Luxaire's site: the Z9VT at 97% AFUE and above with two stages and a variable-speed blower, the Z9ET two-stage and the Z9ES 96% single-stage. Being recent, most are still inside their parts warranty, so the first step on any fault is confirming the registration.

Luxaire air conditioners and heat pumps

Matched outdoor units on the same shared platform. Luxaire's warranty page lists a lifetime compressor limited warranty on select registered models, so check the certificate before paying for a compressor. The routine failures are the usual ones: capacitor, contactor and condenser fan motor.

What goes wrong on Luxaire equipment

2 or 3 red flashes: pressure switch stuck closed or not closing

Two red flashes mean the board found the switch closed before the inducer started; three mean the switch did not close when it should have. Three is the common one, and the cause is usually a blocked condensate drain, a sagging vent pipe holding water, or a termination iced over outside. Condensate drain cleaning or trap replacement is $150–$350, and a pressure switch is $250–$500 when the switch itself tests bad.

4 red flashes: the high limit is tripping

The burners light, the furnace overheats, the limit opens and the flame shuts off while the blower keeps running. Start with the filter, then closed registers and a blocked return. If those are clear the cause is a dirty evaporator coil, a failing blower motor ($500–$1,500) or ductwork too small for the furnace. A new limit switch cures it only when the switch is weak; our limit switch replacement page explains how we tell.

7 red flashes: ignition lockout

The board tried three times to establish flame and gave up for an hour. A cracked hot-surface igniter is $200–$450 and a flame sensor cleaning or replacement is $150–$300. The board also flashes amber as an early warning when the flame-sense signal is getting weak, so a furnace that still heats but shows amber is telling you to book the visit before it locks out.

Luxaire condenser will not start on a hot afternoon

The indoor fan blows room-temperature air and the outdoor unit hums or clicks. A failed run capacitor or a worn contactor is the cause far more often than the compressor, and either is $150–$350. If the condenser fan motor has seized, that repair is $300–$700.

Luxaire warranty: what to know

  • Luxaire's warranty page requires online registration at UPGProductRegistration.com within 90 days of installation to receive the 10-year parts limited warranty and the lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty on its gas furnaces.
  • Without that registration, the same page says coverage reverts to a 5-year parts limited warranty and a 20-year heat exchanger limited warranty.
  • Select Luxaire air conditioners and heat pumps carry a lifetime compressor limited warranty when registered. Unregistered, Luxaire lists the compressor at 5 or 10 years depending on the model.
  • Luxaire offers extended labour coverage as a separate purchase on qualifying equipment, which tells you the standard warranty does not include labour. Ask the installer whether one was bought and get the certificate.
  • Luxaire's site has a warranty lookup. Have the serial number from the rating plate ready, and check that the registered install date and address match your house before a claim is filed.

Parts availability in the GTA

Luxaire parts are York parts, sold under the Source 1 name. Because York, Luxaire and Coleman furnaces are the same platform, one inducer, pressure switch, igniter, gas valve or board serves all three badges, and that keeps the common items in stock at GTA wholesalers. Igniters, flame sensors, capacitors and contactors are on the truck. The order-in items are control boards and the modulating gas valve and inducer on an Acclimate LP9C, which we order by the full model and serial number.

Common questions

Is a Luxaire furnace the same as a York?

Mechanically, yes. Luxaire, York and Coleman are sister brands built on one platform, and the top models differ by one letter: Luxaire LP9C, York YP9C. A technician services them with the same manual and the same Source 1 parts. What differs is the badge, the dealer network that sold it and sometimes the model-year timing of a change.

Who owns Luxaire now?

Luxaire was a Johnson Controls brand for many years. Johnson Controls sold its residential and light-commercial ducted HVAC business, which includes York, Luxaire and Coleman, to Bosch, and both companies announced the sale as complete in mid-2025. Warranty terms stay as written on your certificate, and parts continue to be supplied on the same platform.

What do the red flashes on my Luxaire furnace mean?

The board flashes red a set number of times, pauses and repeats. On the boards we see most, 2 and 3 are pressure-switch faults, 4 is an open high limit and 7 is an ignition lockout after three tries. The full table is in our York furnace error code guide, which covers Luxaire boards. The label inside your furnace door outranks it.

My Luxaire limit switch keeps tripping. Can I replace the switch and be done?

Rarely. A limit opens because the furnace is too hot, and the furnace is too hot because not enough air is crossing the heat exchanger. Change the filter and open every register first. If it still trips, the fix is in the blower, the coil or the ducts, and a new switch will trip the same way within days.

I never registered my Luxaire. Do I have any warranty?

Yes, the base terms: Luxaire lists 5 years on parts and 20 years on the heat exchanger for unregistered furnaces. Labour is not part of either. Send us the serial number and install date and we will confirm what applies before quoting. To arrange a visit, see furnace repair or contact us.
