Coleman Furnace & AC Repair, Installation & Warranty

Coleman furnace and AC repair on this page means Coleman Heating & Air Conditioning: residential gas furnaces and central air conditioners built on the York platform, including the older Coleman furnaces found in manufactured homes. It does not cover Coleman camping heaters or RV rooftop air conditioners, which are different products from different makers and which we do not service. A Coleman Echelon furnace is the York Affinity under another badge and takes York Source 1 parts. Furnace repairs generally fall in the $150–$800 range.

Hands working inside a furnace cabinet

The Coleman name appears on camp stoves, on RV air conditioners and on house furnaces, and only the last of those is HVAC equipment in the sense this page means. Coleman Heating & Air Conditioning uses the name under licence from The Coleman Company, and the equipment is built on the same platform as York and Luxaire. If the rating plate is on a furnace in a basement, a closet or a crawl-space, or on a condenser beside the house, you are in the right place.

The top Coleman furnace, the Echelon CP9C, is a modulating furnace rated up to 98% AFUE. It is the same machine as the York Affinity YP9C and the Luxaire Acclimate LP9C, and the mainstream LX models share their TM9 numbers across the three brands. Service procedures and fault codes are on our York furnace repair page, and the Luxaire page covers the other sister badge.

Older Coleman furnaces in manufactured homes are their own category, often labelled Coleman or Coleman-Evcon. They are downflow furnaces installed in a closet, blowing into a duct under the floor and venting through a roof jack that also brings in combustion air. A furnace for that setting has to be approved for manufactured-home use, so a standard basement furnace is not a legal substitute. Many of these homes sit on rural lots without a gas main and run on propane.

We service Coleman as an independent contractor. On any Coleman the first thing we need is a photograph of the rating plate, because it settles the three questions that decide the visit: which platform, which fuel and how old. Gas and propane work is done by TSSA-licensed technicians under CSA B149.1.

Coleman lines we install and service

Echelon Series

Coleman's premium tier. The CP9C modulating furnace adjusts its firing rate in small steps instead of running at full fire, with a variable-speed blower to match. It is serviced exactly as a York Affinity, and its modulating gas valve and inducer are order-in parts.

LX Series

The mainstream Coleman range, on TM9-series model numbers shared with York and Luxaire. Single-stage and two-stage condensing furnaces with conventional controls, and the tier where parts are cheapest and most likely to be on a wholesaler's shelf.

Manufactured-home furnaces

Older downflow Coleman and Coleman-Evcon furnaces in closets, vented through a roof jack. Burners, igniters, limits and blower parts for many of them are still obtainable; some heat exchangers and boards are discontinued. When a part is gone for good, we say so before you pay for a repair that cannot be completed.

Coleman air conditioners and heat pumps

Outdoor units matched to the furnaces above, built alongside their York equivalents. Capacitors, contactors and fan motors account for most of the summer calls. For a quote on replacing an older Coleman furnace and AC as a pair, the usual range is $7,500–$11,500 installed.

What goes wrong on Coleman equipment

Inducer motor seized, noisy or full of water

The small fan that starts first on a call for heat either screeches, hums without turning or never starts. On condensing Coleman furnaces the inducer housing also collects condensate when its drain port clogs, and the motor fails early. A draft inducer motor replacement is $400–$900. We clear the drain port during that repair, so the new motor does not sit in water as the old one did.

Pressure switch will not prove draft

With the inducer running, the switch should close within seconds. When it does not, the furnace waits and never lights. The causes in order are a blocked or split sensing hose, a clogged port where the hose connects, a restricted vent, and last the switch. Replacing a failed pressure switch is $250–$500; clearing a port or hose costs less and is checked first.

Ignition lockout after three failed tries

The furnace clicks, the igniter may glow, there is no flame or a flame that dies, and after the third try the board locks out for an hour. An igniter is $200–$450 and a flame sensor cleaning or replacement is $150–$300. When the igniter glows and the sensor is clean but no gas arrives, the gas valve is tested under power and replaced if it fails to open, at $500–$1,000.

Roof-jack and airflow problems on manufactured-home furnaces

On a closet furnace the roof jack is part of the appliance. A corroded or blocked jack starves the burner of air or spills flue gas, and the furnace shuts down on its safety switches. A blocked floor duct or a crushed crossover does the same through overheating. These repairs vary too much for a published figure, so we inspect and give a written quote; if you smell exhaust inside, shut the furnace off and call.

Coleman warranty: what to know

  • Coleman's furnace literature lists a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty and a 10-year parts limited warranty, both conditional on online registration within 90 days of installation.
  • If the furnace was not registered in that window, the literature gives the standard terms instead: 20 years on the heat exchanger and 5 years on parts.
  • Echelon brochures also describe a Complete Assurance pledge, under which a heat exchanger failure in the first 10 years can be answered with a replacement furnace. Confirm on your own certificate that it applies to your model and year before relying on it.
  • Labour, the diagnostic visit and anything damaged by a lack of maintenance are outside the manufacturer's terms. A labour warranty exists only if the installer wrote one on the invoice.
  • Manufactured-home Coleman furnaces from the 1990s and earlier are long past any manufacturer coverage. On those, the decision is about parts availability and safety, not about warranty.

Parts availability in the GTA

Coleman residential parts are York parts under the Source 1 name, and the three-badge platform means common items are widely stocked in the GTA. Igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, limits, capacitors and contactors are truck or same-wholesaler items. Echelon modulating components and boards are ordered by model and serial number. Manufactured-home furnace parts are the uncertain category: some are current Source 1 numbers and some are discontinued, and we check availability from the rating-plate photograph before booking a repair.

Common questions

Do you repair Coleman RV air conditioners or camping heaters?

No. RV rooftop air conditioners and camping appliances sold under the Coleman name are made by other companies and are serviced by RV dealers and the maker's own service network. We repair Coleman residential gas furnaces, central air conditioners and heat pumps, including furnaces in manufactured homes that are permanently set up and connected to natural gas or propane.

Can a regular furnace replace the Coleman in my manufactured home?

No. A manufactured-home furnace is a downflow unit approved for that use, with a roof-jack vent that also supplies combustion air and clearances suited to a closet. A standard basement furnace is not approved for that installation. We quote a like-for-like approved replacement, and on a propane home the conversion parts and gas pressure settings are part of the quote.

Is a Coleman furnace as good as a York?

It is the same furnace at each tier, so the question is really about the installation. A Coleman Echelon and a York Affinity are built on the same platform with the same heat exchanger and controls. Duct sizing, venting, gas pressure and commissioning decide how long either one lasts, which is the point made in our answer on whether furnace brand matters.

Are parts still available for a 25-year-old Coleman furnace?

For most wear items, yes: igniters, flame sensors, limits, pressure switches and blower motors usually cross to current numbers. Heat exchangers and some control boards for older and manufactured-home models are discontinued. Send a photo of the rating plate and we will check before you pay for a diagnostic that can only end in replacement.

What should I do when my Coleman furnace locks out overnight?

Switch the furnace power off for one minute and back on, replace a dirty filter and make sure the vent outside is clear. If it locks out again, leave it off: repeated resets do not fix an ignition or draft fault. Our furnace repair service covers the diagnosis, and you can reach us through the contact page or the emergency line.
