KeepRite ProComfort vs ProComfort Deluxe vs Ion

KeepRite ProComfort, ProComfort Deluxe and Ion compared, how they map to today's QuietComfort and Performance names, warranty terms and a verdict.

KeepRite ProComfort vs ProComfort Deluxe vs Ion is a ladder of blower and control technology: ProComfort is the mainstream tier, ProComfort Deluxe adds two-stage heat with variable-speed airflow, and Ion adds a communicating control that runs the furnace and outdoor unit as one system. For most houses the middle tier is the right buy. One thing to know before comparing quotes: KeepRite's current product pages group furnaces as Ion, QuietComfort and Performance, so a quote that says ProComfort should be checked by model number.

The Tier Names Have Changed: How Old and New Names Line Up

ProComfort and ProComfort Deluxe are the names on a great many KeepRite furnaces installed over the past decade and more, and they still appear on quotes, dealer websites and warehouse stock. When we checked KeepRite's product pages in October 2026, the furnace lineup was listed under three headings instead: Ion as premium, QuietComfort as standard and Performance as value.

  • Ion (premium): communicating furnaces. Current models are the Ion 98 modulating furnace (G97CMN, up to 98% AFUE) and the Ion 96 and Ion 97 two-stage variable-speed furnaces (G96CTN, G97CTN).
  • QuietComfort (standard): broadly the seat ProComfort Deluxe held. The QuietComfort 96 (G96VTN) has a two-stage gas valve and a variable-speed blower at up to 96.7% AFUE, without the communicating control.
  • Performance (value): single-stage furnaces such as the Performance 96 (N96MSN and N96VSN), the role the entry ProComfort and Performance models filled.

The model number is what you are buying, not the tier word. In the current codes the letters after the efficiency digits read consistently: C for communicating, V for variable-speed or M for multi-speed blower, then T for two-stage, S for single-stage or M for modulating. A G96VTN is a two-stage, variable-speed, non-communicating furnace whatever the brochure calls it.

What Each Tier Changes in How the Furnace Runs

The tiers differ in staging, blower and control far more than in efficiency. KeepRite's current high-efficiency furnaces are listed between roughly 96% and 98% AFUE from the value tier to the top, so the gas bill barely moves from one tier to the next.

  • ProComfort and Performance single-stage: full fire every cycle with a multi-speed blower. Simple, low priced and well suited to small, tight houses.
  • ProComfort Deluxe and QuietComfort two-stage: low fire for most of the winter with a variable-speed blower that slows to match. Longer, quieter cycles and steadier temperatures between floors.
  • Ion: the same two-stage or a modulating gas valve, plus a control that exchanges data with the furnace and outdoor unit. KeepRite says to pair Ion furnaces with the Ion System Control for full functionality and a complete communicating system.

No Hassle Replacement: The Warranty That Differs by Tier

No Hassle Replacement is a one-time replacement of the whole unit, and its length depends on the product group. KeepRite's wording is that if the compressor, coil or heat exchanger fails due to defect during the No Hassle Replacement period, a comparable unit is provided once.

  • Top-of-the-line products: 10 years
  • Mid-tier products: 5 years
  • Standard-level products: 1 or 3 years
  • Entry-level products: no No Hassle Replacement coverage

On the current furnace pages the Ion and QuietComfort models show No Hassle Replacement and the Performance models do not. The exact term for a given model is on its warranty certificate, so ask for that page with the quote instead of relying on the tier name.

Separately, KeepRite lists a 10-year parts limited warranty when the furnace is registered within 90 days of installation and 5 years if it is not. Most current high-efficiency models carry a lifetime limited heat exchanger warranty with timely registration, or 20 years without. A replacement claim needs written authorization from the KeepRite distributor, and labour charges may apply. Our answer on registering a furnace warranty explains the 90-day window.

Which Tier Matches Your Air Conditioner or Heat Pump

Match the furnace's blower and control to the outdoor unit, because the furnace moves the air for cooling as well as heating.

  • Single-stage AC: any tier works. A single-stage ProComfort or Performance furnace is a fair match, and a two-stage furnace still improves winter comfort.
  • Two-stage AC or heat pump: a two-stage, variable-speed furnace (ProComfort Deluxe on older quotes, QuietComfort 96 today) so airflow drops with the outdoor unit's low stage. KeepRite describes the QuietComfort furnaces as dual-fuel capable with a compatible heat pump and thermostat.
  • Ion variable-speed AC or heat pump: an Ion furnace with the Ion System Control. The outdoor unit, furnace and control exchange data, which is how the system reaches its full range of speeds.
  • Inverter heat pump without Ion: KeepRite now also lists a QuietComfort 19 variable-speed heat pump in its standard tier. Ask whether the outdoor unit on your quote needs the Ion control or runs from a conventional thermostat, because that decides which furnace it can sit on.

The mistake to avoid is mixing tiers so that a communicating outdoor unit ends up on a non-communicating furnace. At best it runs as a simpler machine than the one on the invoice.

What a KeepRite Furnace Costs Installed

KeepRite prices as a value brand, so all three tiers sit inside the normal GTA furnace band.

  • New high-efficiency furnace, installed in the GTA: $4,300–$7,000
  • The range most replacements fall in: $4,500–$6,500
  • Premium-badge brands at the same tier: typically $500–$1,500 more, which is the saving a value brand offers

A gas furnace by itself earns no rebate in Ontario today; a hybrid setup with an eligible heat pump can. KeepRite is built by International Comfort Products, part of Carrier, and shares a great deal with its sister brands. Our comparison of KeepRite vs Carrier covers what the badge does and does not change.

Verdict: Which KeepRite Tier to Buy

Buy the two-stage variable-speed mid tier, whichever name is on the quote.

  • Choose ProComfort or Performance single-stage for a small, tight house, a rental or a short hold with a single-stage AC.
  • Choose ProComfort Deluxe or QuietComfort 96 for a typical two-storey: two-stage heat, variable-speed airflow and No Hassle Replacement coverage without paying for a communicating control.
  • Choose Ion if you are buying an Ion variable-speed AC or heat pump with it, or want the modulating furnace. Without the Ion control you are paying for capability you will not use.

Frequently asked questions

Is ProComfort Deluxe the same as QuietComfort?

They fill broadly the same seat. ProComfort Deluxe was KeepRite's name for its two-stage, variable-speed tier, and KeepRite's current product pages list the comparable furnaces under QuietComfort, a name its sister brands already used. Compare the model number and the feature list on the quote, not the tier word, since naming on dealer sites and older stock lags behind the manufacturer.

Does a KeepRite Ion furnace need the Ion thermostat?

To work as designed, yes. KeepRite's product pages say an Ion furnace reaches full functionality when paired with the Ion System Control. The control is what lets the furnace, blower and outdoor unit share information and use their full range of stages. Confirm the control is itemized on the quote, because it affects both the price and the behaviour.

How long is the No Hassle Replacement warranty on a KeepRite furnace?

It depends on the product group: KeepRite lists 10 years for top-of-the-line products, 5 years for mid-tier, 1 or 3 years for standard-level, and none for entry-level. On a furnace it covers a one-time replacement if the heat exchanger fails from a defect in that period. Ask the installer for the warranty certificate for the exact model before you sign.

Are KeepRite furnaces good quality for the price?

They are solid value. KeepRite comes from International Comfort Products, part of Carrier, and its furnaces use components shared with sister brands, which helps parts availability in Ontario. The installation matters more than the badge: correct sizing from a heat-loss calculation, proper venting and a set-up check of gas pressure and airflow decide how long any furnace lasts and how it sounds.
