Furnace Repair · Georgetown, OntarioFurnace Repair in Georgetown
Furnace repair in Georgetown runs $150–$450 for the faults we see most, a flame sensor, an igniter or a capacitor, and $150–$800 for most repairs overall. The $90–$150 diagnostic is credited to the repair when you go ahead. Which part has failed depends heavily on which Georgetown you live in: the old core, the 1970s–90s subdivisions, Georgetown South, or a rural road with no gas main.
Georgetown furnace faults by house age, with repair prices
The largest share of Georgetown furnace calls comes from the subdivisions built between the 1970s and the 1990s. Those houses are on their second furnace, usually installed in the 2000s, and a furnace of that age gives trouble at the draft inducer motor ($400–$900), the hot surface igniter ($200–$450) and the blower motor, where a squeal ignored for a winter turns into a $500–$1,500 replacement. A mid-efficiency furnace from before 2010 still vents into a metal B-vent or a chimney, so on those we check the vent connector and the draft as part of the diagnosis. When a furnace that old has a failed heat exchanger, the $1,500–$3,000 repair is not worth making.
Georgetown South is the 2000s layer, and its condensing furnaces fail on the water side. The condensate trap and drain line slime up, water backs into the pressure-switch tubing or the inducer housing, and the furnace locks out or leaves a puddle at its base; clearing and rebuilding the drain is $150–$350, and a failed condensate pump is $250–$450 installed. Flame sensors on these units also coat over every few years, a $150–$300 fix that an annual cleaning prevents.
The older downtown core and the countryside around it are the exceptions. Houses near Main Street have had heating systems fitted and refitted over a century, so we expect unusual duct layouts and low basements, and the diagnosis takes longer than on a tract house. Outside the Enbridge Gas mains, rural Halton Hills properties heat with propane or with electric furnaces fed by Halton Hills Hydro. On an electric furnace the usual faults are a burnt heating element, a failed sequencer or a tripped limit, covered on our electric furnace repair page; on propane, a low tank in deep cold starves the burner and mimics a bad gas valve.
Georgetown sits inland and well above Lake Ontario, so winter nights run colder than in Burlington or Oakville and a furnace here works harder for its keep. That makes the repair-or-replace rule worth applying strictly: fix it when the furnace is under 12 years old or the part costs less than half of a replacement; past 15 years with a major part gone, we quote a new one beside the repair. Gas work is done by TSSA-licensed technicians to CSA B149.1, and building permits, where a job needs one, come from Town of Halton Hills Building Services (HVAC permits in Halton Hills). Furnace Repair in Georgetown — FAQs
Do you come out to Georgetown for furnace repair, and how soon?
Yes, Georgetown and the rest of Halton Hills are in our service area. The shop is in Burlington, roughly 40 minutes south in normal traffic, so we will not pretend to be around the corner. No-heat calls in freezing weather are scheduled ahead of routine work and are often handled the same day; when you call you get the actual window for that day.
How much is a furnace repair in Georgetown?
The diagnostic visit is $90–$150 and goes toward the repair. Common fixes are $150–$450. Larger parts cost more: a draft inducer motor $400–$900, a control board $500–$1,200, a blower motor $500–$1,500. If the heat exchanger is cracked, the repair is $1,500–$3,000 and we will recommend replacement instead. General price bands for all our work are on the pricing page.
My Georgetown house is on propane. Do you repair propane furnaces?
Yes. A propane furnace is a gas furnace set up with different orifices and gas-valve settings, and the same parts fail. Two checks are propane-specific: the tank level, because a low tank in a cold snap cannot deliver enough pressure, and the regulator at the tank, which is usually the propane supplier's equipment. If the furnace lights, runs briefly and quits on the coldest mornings only, mention that on the phone.
The furnace runs but there is water on the floor beside it. Is that urgent?
It is not dangerous, but do not leave it. On a condensing furnace the water is condensate that should be draining away, and a blocked trap or a failed pump will eventually trip the pressure switch and stop the heat. Turn the furnace off if water is reaching the control board or a finished floor. The repair is usually $150–$350, and in summer the same puddle can come from the air conditioner's drain.
Is it worth repairing a furnace that is more than 15 years old?
For an inexpensive part, yes: an igniter or flame sensor buys time at low cost. For a control board, blower motor or heat exchanger, usually not, because the next expensive part is not far behind and a new high-efficiency furnace is $4,500–$7,500 installed. We give you both numbers in writing and you choose. Nobody is pushed toward a new furnace over a part that costs a few hundred dollars.
