Heating and cooling in Palgrave
Palgrave HVAC service from ZK Mechanical covers furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and water heaters in the village on Highway 50 and on the estate lots in the hills around it. A diagnostic visit is $90–$150 and comes off the repair if you go ahead, and most furnace and AC repairs land between $150 and $800. Palgrave is the far end of our service area, about 70 minutes from the Burlington shop, so we book these calls into a set window and say plainly when a truck can get there. The same owner-operated, TSSA-licensed crew covers the rest of Caledon, including Bolton just down Highway 50.
Palgrave is two kinds of housing under one name. The village is a small cluster of older houses near the mill pond, and around it are the estate subdivisions: large homes, most built since the 1980s, on acreage lots in the Oak Ridges Moraine hills. Houses that size often run two furnaces and two air conditioners, or a single system pushing air down duct runs so long that the far bedrooms never match the thermostat. Enbridge gas is available only where a main passes the lot, so many homes off the main roads heat with propane, oil or electricity and draw their water from a private well.
The fuel decides the job. On a gas street a furnace replacement is a standard high-efficiency install at $4,500–$7,500; on propane the same furnace needs the manufacturer's conversion kit, the right gas pressure and a supply line sized for the load, which we explain under propane furnace installation. Where the propane or oil bill is the complaint, a cold-climate heat pump with the existing furnace kept as backup is usually the better spend, and a 3-ton system installs for $9,500–$15,000. Electricity is Hydro One, permits run through Town of Caledon Building Services, and a water heater fed from a well needs its own look, covered in our guide to water heaters on Caledon well water.

Why ZK Mechanical in Palgrave
Large Palgrave houses often have a furnace and a condenser for each floor, installed the same year and wearing out together. We test both sets, tell you which is failing and which has years left, and price a paired replacement only when the equipment is past 12–15 years. Replacing a furnace and its air conditioner together runs $7,500–$11,500 for each pair.
Propane appliances fall under the same TSSA gas licensing as natural gas ones, so this is not handyman work. On every propane furnace or water heater we check the pressure at the appliance, the conversion kit and the venting. A furnace set up for the wrong fuel soots its heat exchanger and can make carbon monoxide.
Well water carries minerals and sometimes sediment that settle in a tank and coat a tankless heat exchanger. We ask about the well, the softener and any iron filter before quoting, because that decides tank or tankless. A tank swap is $1,200–$2,500 installed, a tankless conversion is $3,500–$6,500, and a tankless unit on hard water needs a descale flush each year at $150–$300.
Palgrave is the farthest point we serve, and we would sooner say that than pretend otherwise. Routine work goes into a planned window, and on a no-heat call we tell you on the phone when a technician can realistically be at the door. There is no surcharge for evenings, weekends or holidays. Send the address and the fuel type and we will tell you what the visit involves.
“It was the weekend, late at night and -20°, but he came to fix my furnace because we had a baby. Very professional and friendly. I will highly recommend him for any type of service.”
