Quick answer
No. Enbridge Gas does not fix furnaces. The utility owns the pipe up to and including the meter, answers gas-smell emergencies at 1-866-763-5427 and makes the house safe, but it does not repair customer equipment. If the furnace is rented, call the rental company named on your contract or gas bill. If you own it, call any TSSA-registered heating contractor.
Does Enbridge fix furnaces? No, and the confusion is understandable, because for years the Enbridge name was on service vans as well as gas bills. Today Enbridge Gas is the utility: it delivers gas to the meter and responds when that gas is a danger. Everything on your side of the meter is repaired by whoever owns it or whoever you hire.
What Enbridge Gas does when you call the emergency line
Enbridge Gas runs a 24-hour emergency line, 1-866-763-5427, for the smell of gas, a damaged gas line or a hissing meter. A utility technician comes out, finds the source with a gas detector and makes the site safe, and Enbridge does not bill for that emergency response. For a sounding carbon monoxide alarm, leave the house and call 911; the fire department measures the air and brings in the utility if a gas appliance has to be shut off.
Making safe is where the utility's job ends. If the hazard is in your furnace, the Enbridge technician closes the appliance valve or locks the meter, hangs a warning tag describing the problem and leaves. The repair, and the relight afterwards, is yours to arrange; how to get your gas turned back on explains the order things happen in.

Why old stickers and paperwork say Enbridge or Union Gas
In Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Hamilton the gas utility was Union Gas until it merged into Enbridge Gas in 2019, so meter tags and older paperwork there may still carry the Union name. The home-service and equipment-rental business that once used the Enbridge name was sold off long ago and now operates under other brands. A faded Enbridge sticker on a furnace or water heater door is a leftover from that era, not a service contract with the utility.
Rented furnace or water heater: call the rental provider
If the equipment is rented, the rental company owns it, and repairs are normally part of what the monthly fee covers. Find the provider in one of three places: the rental contract, a sticker on the unit with an account or unit number, or the gas bill itself. Enbridge lets other companies bill through its statement, and those lines appear in a section for charges from other companies, with the provider's name and phone number beside them.
Call that number, not an independent contractor, for a rented unit, because having a third party work on rental equipment can leave you paying for a repair the contract already covered, or in breach of its terms. If the rental company cannot come for days and the house is cold, ask them in writing what they will authorize. Not sure whether a unit is rented? How to tell if a water heater is rented or owned lists the checks, and the same ones apply to a furnace.
Owned furnace: any TSSA-registered heating contractor
If you own the furnace, you choose who fixes it. Ontario requires that the company be a TSSA-registered fuel contractor and that the person doing the work hold a gas technician certificate: G2 for nearly all residential furnace work, G1 for larger equipment, and G3 only under the supervision of a G1 or G2.
- Ask to see the technician's TSSA certificate card. It shows the holder's name, the class (G1, G2 or G3) and an expiry date.
- Ask for the contractor's TSSA registration number and look for it on the quote or invoice.
- Confirm liability insurance, and WSIB coverage if the job goes beyond a simple repair.
- Expect a written price before the repair starts, not after.
The step-by-step version, including what each licence class may work on, is in how to verify a TSSA licence.
What a furnace repair call costs when you own the equipment
- Service call and diagnosis: $90–$150, credited toward the repair when you approve it.
- Most furnace repairs: $150–$800, depending on the part.
- Common small parts such as a flame sensor, igniter or capacitor: $150–$450.
Repair bands by part are listed on the pricing page. An owned furnace also means the choice between repairing and replacing is yours, with no buyout clause in the way.
ZK Mechanical is an owner-operated, TSSA-licensed heating contractor based on North Service Road in Burlington, and furnace repair on equipment the homeowner owns is the core of the work. If Enbridge has tagged your furnace or the heat is out, call (647) 801-1252 or send a message with the furnace make and the tag wording.
