24-Hour Emergency Furnace Repair

24-hour emergency furnace repair is a no-heat call taken at any hour on (647) 801-1252, priced the same at 2 AM as at 2 PM: a $90–$150 diagnostic and no overtime, weekend or holiday surcharge. Most overnight failures are small parts that ride on the truck — an igniter, a flame sensor, a blocked condensate drain — and most furnace fixes cost $150–$450. If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, leave the house and call Enbridge Gas or 911 first, not a contractor.

Reviewed by Zobir, licensed technician

Four checks before you call can save the visit. Put fresh batteries in the thermostat and confirm it is set to heat. Find the furnace switch, which looks like a light switch on or near the unit, and the furnace breaker in the panel; both get bumped off more often than you would think. Then pull the filter and, if the furnace vents through plastic pipes on a side wall, go outside and clear snow or ice from the intake and exhaust — see a snow-blocked furnace vent.

When those checks do not bring the heat back, the fault is usually one of five things: a cracked hot-surface igniter, a flame sensor coated with oxide, a pressure switch that will not close, a seized inducer motor, or a condensate trap or drain blocked with sludge or ice. Those parts are stocked on the truck for the common furnace brands, so the repair normally happens on the same visit as the diagnosis. The technician reads the flash code on the control board, tests the suspect part with a meter, and gives you the price in writing before replacing anything.

A house can go without heat longer than most people fear, but not indefinitely. In most homes a furnace that quits at midnight leaves the rooms cool by morning, not frozen; the danger builds once the indoor temperature slides below about 10 °C while it is well below freezing outside, and the first pipes to go are in exterior walls, over garages and in crawlspaces. Draughty pre-war houses and century farmhouses lose heat fastest, and a 2000s+ build holds it much longer. Open the cabinet doors under sinks, let the farthest tap run at a trickle, and know where the main water shutoff is — the steps are in keeping pipes from freezing when the furnace fails.

Two situations are not furnace repair calls at all. If you smell gas, or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, get everyone outside and call the Enbridge Gas emergency line or 911 from there, without flipping switches on the way out. Once the house has been cleared, a licensed technician finds and fixes the source, and that is when we come in. Everything else — no heat, a furnace that starts and quits, water under the unit — is what the 24-hour line is for, and the wider emergency HVAC service page covers boilers, water heaters and air conditioning.

Call the 24-hour line when

  • The furnace is dead or blowing cold and the thermostat, switch, breaker, filter and outside vent pipes all check out
  • It lights, runs for a minute and shuts off, over and over, while the house keeps cooling
  • Water is pooling under a high-efficiency furnace and it has stopped firing
  • There is an infant, a senior or someone unwell in the house, or the forecast low is −10 °C or colder
  • You smelled gas or the CO alarm sounded — leave first, call Enbridge Gas or 911 from outside, and call us once the house is cleared

How it works

1. Call and describe it

Tell us what the furnace is doing, the flash code if you can see one, how cold the house is and who is in it. We will say what to check, whether it is safe to keep trying, and give you an honest arrival window for that night's queue instead of a promise.

2. Diagnose, then quote in writing

The technician reads the fault history, tests the igniter, flame signal, pressure switch and inducer with a meter and manometer, and clears the vent or drain if that is the cause. You see the price before anything is replaced.

3. Heat back on, or a safe plan

Truck-stock parts go in on the spot and the furnace is run through full cycles before we leave. If a model-specific part has to come from the supplier when the counter opens, we tell you the timeline and how to keep the house and pipes safe until then.

Brands: We repair Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, Daikin, York, Amana, KeepRite and Napoleon furnaces at any hour, whoever installed them.

Common questions

Do you really answer at 3 AM?

The emergency line, (647) 801-1252, is open 24 hours a day, every day, Sundays and holidays included. What we will not do is quote an arrival time we cannot keep: on the coldest nights several furnaces fail at once, and calls with infants, seniors or a house already near freezing go first. For a problem that can wait until the office opens at 7 AM, send a request instead.

Is emergency furnace repair more expensive at night?

Not with us. The diagnostic is $90–$150 at any hour and the repair is billed at the daytime rate, with no overtime, weekend or holiday surcharge. Many companies do add an after-hours fee, so ask before you book anyone. Whether emergency HVAC service costs more explains how those fees usually work.

Is it safe to use space heaters until you arrive?

Electric space heaters are fine if each one is plugged straight into a wall outlet, kept a metre from bedding and curtains, and switched off when nobody is in the room. Never heat the house with the oven, a barbecue, a camp stove or a propane heater meant for outdoors; all of them produce carbon monoxide in a closed house.

Can every furnace be fixed the same night?

Most can, because the common failures are truck-stock parts. The exceptions are model-specific items such as some control boards, variable-speed blower motors and proprietary inducer assemblies, which come from the supplier during business hours. In those cases we make the furnace safe, tell you when the part is expected, and help you bridge the gap with space heaters and pipe protection.

What if the furnace is too old to be worth fixing tonight?

At night the job is heat, not a sales decision. If a 20-year-old furnace needs an igniter, we fit it and you are warm. If it has a cracked heat exchanger or another fault that makes it unsafe to run, we shut it down, explain why in writing, and price a replacement in daylight; furnace repair sets out the repair-or-replace rule.
